This is an excellent article by Linda Carpenter, the New Team Development Chair at the Jacksonville Beach Unit of the American Cancer Society.

Ten Things I Wish I Would Have Known Before My Mastectomy by Linda Carpenter 1.    Get a second opinion. 2.    Set up a free personalized website that connects you with family and      friends during this period in your life. This can be done at http//www.caringbridge.org/. It is a wonderful place for you to update your status so you don’t have to keep repeating yourself. 3.    Take your button-down pajamas with you to the hospital. 4.    Take two bolster pillows to the hospital for under your arms after surgery; then at home. 5.    When prepping to go home post-surgery, request being wrapped over one shoulder or use a back support. 6.    Even with drainage tubes in place, you can enjoy your shower by suspending the tubes via a lanyard or necklace. 7.    Allow someone to stay with you at your home, to assist with medical and personal...

2012 marks four years that Premier Physical Therapy has provided race weekend support for the 26.2 With Donna Marathon as well as the Galloway Training Program runs leading up to the race.  We are honored and priveleged to work with not only elite and professional runners, but also the beginners who are out there running for themselves or loved ones who have been touched by breast cancer.  It is an amazing experience to be around so many people who have set goals and pushed themselves for such a great cause.

This year marks the 12th year of Chris and Eric's involvement with NASCAR and the Daytona International Speedway as providers of physical therapy and wellness services for race car drivers during Speedweeks.  Kicking off Speedweeks 2012 was the 50th anniversary of the Rolex 24 Hour Race.  Jacksonville's own Brumos Porche team finished 3rd for the GT class in that race after running in first place for the majority of the race, setting them up as possible GT class champions again for 2012, after achieving that honor in 2011 .  Pictured here is Chris Kopp PT, OCS with Ponte Vedra resident and legendary Grand Am driver Hurley Haywood who came out of retirement to drive for Brumos Porche for one more season, finishing his last Rolex 24 Hour Race on the podium.  Chris and Eric look forward to working with the race car drivers, their crews, and their family members during the rest of Speedweeks including the Daytona 500 later this month.

Here is a question that we received recently from a runner who experienced a common problem:

"I started having trouble with my IT band back in Nov. I recently ran the half marathon at the 26.2 with Donna. The side of the knee pain started at about mile 6 this time. I had to refrain from doing the full marathon because in my training I could never make it past 11 miles without the pain coming and I barely being able to walk. This was even with taking a walk break after every 3 miles. It is a nagging pain and is really interferring with my training. I have stretched, used a foam roller, ultrasound and don't know what else to do about it."

Michelle

Here is a response from Chris Kopp PT, OCS who specializes in working with amateur and elite runners:

Hi Michelle, Thanks for emailing.  I am sorry you have been struggling with what is unfortunately a common issue with our running population.  It appears you have done the usual remedies without success.  What you...
